As a choice of feedstock AGRASUN has selected Jatropha Curcas, also known as Pinon Blanco of the Euphorbiaceae family. We made this choice given that Jatropha is the most suitable cost competitive, non food chain item, energy balance, highest yield, feedstock available.
Is Jatropha strategically desirable ?
Yes, it is not part of the human or animal food chain/supply, thereby having minimal, if any, effect on the price and supply of resources vital to human nutrition;
Is Jatropha ecologically healthy ?
it can be grown in degraded soils, and actually will reverse degradation where it has occurred in the past from other crops and/or deforestation;
Is Jatropha environmentally sustainable ?
if grown in conducive climatic regions it will produce fruit 9 months of the year;
Is Jatropha economically viable ?
it begins to produce fruit in the first year and continues to produce fruit for 35-40 years. The yields substantiated by scientific studies performed by leading companies in the regions in which we operate prove economic feasibility; and it can be produced for under $43 US Dollars per barrel;
Can a Jatropha project expand rural development ?
by improving living standards of the local communities by offering formal full-time employment without the required migration of workers normally encountered in seasonal harvests. It brings significant job creation potential, with positions that include highly skilled science, engineering, and business related employment; medium level technical staff; low skill industrial plant jobs; and unskilled agricultural labor. |
